Fukui’s Local Sake -Fukui, a Land Rich in Water and Rice-

As one theory goes, the name “Fukui” itself comes from “Fuku-no-i,” a famous spring-water well inside Fukui Castle (also known as Kitanosho Castle) — a sign of how deeply “Fukui” has been tied to fine water since ancient times.

It’s also not widely known that Koshihikari, the rice practically synonymous with deliciousness, actually originated here in Fukui.

Blessed with mineral-rich spring water and rice grown in this naturally abundant land, Fukui is home to many long-established sake breweries — and its local sake is, without exception, delicious.
